Day of Service Event Team

August 13, 2017

The annual Day of Service attracts more than 700 volunteers from four Colorado cities.  The 2017 Event Teams (12 of them at last count) are organizing more than 80 projects.

Each Event Team includes a Site Manager, a Homeowner Advocate, and a Volunteer Coordinator to support the Project Managers who are onsite at each project home.

We are still looking for Project Managers for the 2017 Day of Service.  A description of the role is at the end of this post.

Meet some of the folks organizing and leading the 2017 Day of Service:

The Site Manager oversees several projects, each of which is run by a Project Manager.  During the month or two prior to the Day of Service, the Site Manager meets each homeowner and helps assess the warm, dry, safe needs.  The Site Manager is instrumental in organizing the workflow, and often has a background in construction or a related trade.

For months leading up to the Day of Service, the Homeowner Advocate is the liaison between the homeowner and the rest of the Event Team. The process includes lots of paperwork, but focuses mainly on building relationships.

The Volunteer Coordinator reviews volunteer registration data and matches families, groups and individuals with projects that suit their specific skill sets.   On the Day of Service, the Volunteer Coordinators facilitate check-in in the morning, and throughout the day they are in close contact with the Site Manager and the Project Managers to make sure volunteer power is used effectively, and to make adjustments if the scope of a project changes or a project is completed early.

Special Teams of skilled craftsman and organizers move between Sites doing things such as plumbing and electrical, HVAC, distributing lunches, taking photos, running for materials, trimming trees, hauling trash, and . . . more!

The 2017 Event Teams are established, but we still have many openings for Project Managers. Construction / handyman (or woman) skills and people management skills make for the ideal Project Manager. The time commitment is approximately six hours total before the Day of Service to order and purchase materials, plus the day of the event. If you are interested in serving in this role, please contact us immediately.
